Comments: These boots are very comfortable, but I wanted to test how well they keep out moisture, so I went for a long hike in a forest preserve while it was raining. Terrain was mostly grassy and muddy paths, but I also veered into the under-forest and through an area of clear cut. In very little time I was soaked, but I was amazed that my feet were completely dry and warm. I've never had a boot that repelled water as well as these Ahnus. |

BEST USES Comments: I had high hopes for these boots to provide more support than the Merrill ventilator series. I wore a different pair of socks each time but unfortunately the heat buildup in the boot was significant and, after only 30 min., uncomfortable. I couldn't wait to take them off and cool down. This was a huge disappointment since I'd heard many good things about the boots' breathability, the company's local startup, and I got them on sale just a couple weeks ago. They are like a first (or second) date with an attractive person you want very much to like (after all the effort to get this far) but your instincts tell you no, stop right here. With a heavy heart, back they go. |

Comments: I bought these boots after a lot of deliberation and am pretty darn happy with them. I've hiked and scrambled through a lot of terrain, up to and including some multi-day backpacking through Desolation Wilderness. Initially they were painful to break in, but now they feel fantastic, even if they are half a size too big for me (I just use a thicker sock). The traction is outstanding, and I can honestly say I feel like a mountain goat at times, always being sure of their grip. They also have great ankle support, with a flat heel design specifically to guard against potential rolling. They're also nice and waterproof (I'm really a fan of the eVent design). I stomp through many a puddle up to the ankle and never feel anything more than the cold of the water through the boot. On one trip my foot got dunked while crossing a deep stream and I got wet below the ankle (the laces weren't super tight at that point); even then, they dried up pretty fast. Which brings me to some of the cons. The lacing system is pretty janky in my opinion; you can get them good and snug, but it takes some thought and effort as the laces have to be held tight while tying them (let up even a little and you have to re-adjust them before tying); they also loosen after a while and have to be re-tied periodically. I really hope Ahnu fixes this with the next generation. Also, the toe kick is pretty lame, and could certainly cover way more. Not too mention that what little kick there is started peeling back from the boot after less than 30 miles. Anyway, that's my two cents. Happy trekking. |

Comments: Disclaimer. I have only worn for about 24 hours straight for day to day activities. To start I tried on 7 pairs of boots. I was aiming for a low-mid height weekend warrior. I walked around in all of them for a while in the store. These boots, from the moment I put them on, were beyond comfortable. The interior is so smooth and on an even plain that there are not hot spots, etc. I have been wearing them for the past day+ and can say I am definitely happy and after I hit a trail for the weekend I will update. I think, if performance and comfort continue, I will be buying another pair for backup... As usual REI staff was there to help me make a decision and answer my questions. |

Comments: I wore them through the airport and on the plane. Easy on and off and comfortable with the laces undone. Great for hiking in cold and warm weather. Lightweight, waterproof, easy to clean, quick drying. I think they look good too. |

CONS BEST USES Comments: Have always worn Merrill low cuts but thought I would try an ankle height for a change. I wore them for a few days working [i'm a cabinet maker] to get a feel for them and they felt great. Just got back from 7 days on the AT and I have no complaints. I bought them 1 size large and I have plenty of foot room without sliding around inside them. They keep my feet from sweating and were really comfortable walking down hills. They fit well are light weight and the laces stat tied! |

PROS
CONS BEST USES Comments: Loved the fit of this boot but had to return it due to hotspots on my ankle thanks to the Elkridge's thick tongue. My previous boot was a Keen Targhee II. The Elkridge also lacks any reflective material. I actually came to like the Targhee's reflective material for low-light hikes. Too bad about the Elkridge, 'cause the fit was so perfect. |

BEST USES Comments: I'm in food delivery, they are my light winter boots. They are very slippery on commercial kitchen floors, but are very light and comfortable out of the box. The break-in time was about a week(five days). Only 1 month old,too soon to tell wear yet. So far so good. |

Comments: My pack weight is down and my old boots are worn out. Looking for a new boot has been tedious. I really really wanted to like these boots: eVent, exciting new company and light relatively stiff, supportive design. However, these hurt and have quality control issues. The collar of these boots comes up too high in the back, causing some serious rubbing of the skin covering my achilles tendon. Apparently last year's model (still shown in the product photo) has nylon inner and a relatively standard cutout for the achilles, but the 2011 needs some work. Also, the dye on the leather of these boots doesn't seem water fast and when a stream was deeper than I expected, the yellow leather liner turned some funky colors. Also the right boot leaked if the water covered the laces. On a 3 mile hike with some moderate up and down at Eno River NC State Park, these were supportive and had good traction on gravel and packed dirt. By the end my Achilles was developing a hot spot from the weird collar thing. |

Comments: These boots fit great right out of the box. . . very comfortable and very good support. I'm gearing up for a climb to the top of Mt. Whitney and wanted a boot that was lightweight but very watertight and provided great long term support. My only little disappointment was that one of the eyelets had a rivet fail my second time wearing them. REI provided great support and promptly switched them out for a new pair. That's the only reason for not giving a five star rating. Very pleased with these boots. |

Comments: These Ahnu boots are the most comfortable, out-of-the-box shoe I have ever put on my feet. Honestly, the Ahnu boots feel almost as broken in as my 15 year old boots. I don't know how they do it, but it's great. I wore the boots for about three days prior to hiking in Yosemite. A huge snow storm rolled in and dropped five inches of snow overnight. I hiked all morning in snow and slush and probably three inches of standing water, and these boots and my feet stayed dry. The only negatives is the traction is not great (I wonder if the rubber is factory stiff) and the ankle support is mediocre. If you are just out for a day hike and you plan on crossing streams or hiking through the snow, these shoes are fantastic. |
